"The Convenient City"
          Community Service Awards Banquet

On Oct. 18th. 2007, the City of Midfield and the Midfield Area Chamber of Commerce teamed up to honor the people that Mayor Gary Richardson called "the unsung heroes" of the city.

Plaques and certificates were passed out to more than a dozen people at what was billed as the First Annual Community Service Awards Banquet. The awards recgonized citizen volunteers in the schools, the library, youth involvement and other civic activities.

Richardson paid special tribute to
B.Y.Williams Sr., calling him the epitome of community service. Williams was the first recipient of what will in the future carry his name as the top honor for Midfield volunteers - the B.Y.Williams Sr. Community Service Award.

Williams' son, former Mayor Buck Williams, who has followed him in community service as a library board member and current Chamber president, said the evening was historic.

"This is the first time since our reorganization that the Midfield Chamber of Commerce and the City of Midfield have worked this closely together on any project. And for it to be for a cause as worthy as this, is a wonderful thing.  I commend the Mayor and his staff for doing a whole lot of work," he said.
